About us
Dunhuang Contemporary Art Museum
Dunhuang Contemporary Art Museum, established in 2024, is jointly initiated by Dunhuang Cultural Tourism Group, Yangpu Science and Technology Innovation Group, and Shanghai Fucai Culture. With Dunhuang culture as its gene, the museum presents the rich and diverse world of art and thought through academic research, exhibition, collection, publication, education, digital transformation and public projects on modern and contemporary art. It also aims to explore the historical logic of modern Chinese art and the contemporary translation of traditional culture in the context of the connection between classical and modern, and to establish an international platform for art practice and theoretical research with China as the venue with an open vision.
We believe that Dunhuang is not a static concept, but is in a dynamic process of continuous growth and change. Dunhuang is an all-encompassing condensation of culture, art, politics, history, customs, beliefs, nature, and even different civilizations and other aspects of human life, and in this regard, Dunhuang is a mirror that reflects the living world. The museum takes Dunhuang as inspiration and Dunhuang culture and art as the cornerstone, hoping to create a visual field of dialogue between art and contemporary life on the basis of inheriting the oriental background of Chinese culture. Drawing on Dunhuang's local resources and our residency projects, the museum also aims to become a port connecting Dunhuang's on-site and urban art spaces, breaking the boundaries between the region, the ancient and the modern, and knowledge, and based on tradition and contemporary, forming a platform for art practice and research in Shanghai, Dunhuang and the world.
